She narrowed her eyes, clearly not satisfied. “What’s wrong, my princess?” I teased. She groaned and crossed her arms. “Were you going to tell me it was your birthday this Friday?” That made me laugh. “I’d forgotten, to be honest. I don’t really care about my birthday.” “Everyone loves their birthday,” she replied with a frown. But I could already see the tension slipping from her posture. “Mine were always formal state affairs. Dinners with dignitaries, stiff suits, expectations,” I shrugged. “Not exactly my idea of a celebration.”

I mutter against her curls. "You can do this," she reassures. I look at her with a small pout. "I don't know what I'd do without you." "Rightttt." After a moment of solitude, the culprit finally finds me. "Sweetheart! I've been looking for you since you arrived," Dad exclaims, his face lit up with a big smile. He plants a kiss on my forehead. "Happy Birthday, Princessa." I bury my face in his chest. "Thanks, Dad. You didn't have to...I'm 25."

“Happy birthday princess” I say as I stroke Rosie’s soft hair, she opens her sleepy eyes and wraps her little arms around my neck. We have a cuddle in her bed for a few minutes until she remembers it’s her party today. “Party time! It’s my party today!” she kicks her duvet off and jumps out of bed, doing a funky dance around her room and wiggling her bum. She slips straight into her Cinderella dress without taking her pyjamas off and runs downstairs.
