So I got myself a spot and sat down as thoughts of what might be happening between the two filled my head. I felt bad. I felt like I was all alone in the world even though there was loud music deafening my ears from the background. “Hey, kyle who invited you?” I heard an unfriendly familiar voice say. I lifted my head to see that it was Harry, boyfriend to Bella. Many believe that Harry will become one of the greatest warlocks as soon as he clocks eighteen and as such, they see him and Bella as a power couple. Unlike Bella, Harry is calmer and a bit friendly but I know better than to engage him in a chat as that could provoke his over a possessive girlfriend.

But who? He thought of chasing after the coward who’d stolen his daughter, but one glance at Rosa changed everything. She was dying. Blood seeped from deep wounds. Her skin was cold. She needed him. Torn between two impossible choices, Harry made the only one his heart could bear. He gathered her broken body in his arms, shifted into his Lycan form, and ran. His massive paws pounded the earth with desperation, his breath coming in ragged bursts. He ran like death itself chased him, carrying his mate home before the light left her eyes.

The silver that had been burning in them earlier had a ring of red around them—blood red. He took my wrist away from his mouth and tried to stand up but he staggered and I hurried to hold him.

My breath caught, my hands scrabbling at his wrist as panic flared in my chest. His eyes burned, not red but fierce, his face inches from mine. “I’m the next leader of the Marshall coven,” he growled, his voice low and menacing, each word dripping with authority. “A centuries-old vampire. You think being my stepbrother gives you immunity? Try to humiliate me again, Chase, and I’ll crush you like the bug you are, you stupid idiot.”

While she was looking for answers to her questions, something caught her eye. "A black cape? Long-sleeved white shirt? And a red bow?” Cyrille's eyes begin to widen. "This is how a vampire dresses in classic Dracula films!" she exclaimed. “Oh my—” She couldn't finish her words and immediately covered her mouth to keep from shouting. She was overjoyed with the mixed emotions she was experiencing at the time, and she couldn't believe that after days of fruitless hunting, she'd have the good fortune to meet a vampire.

I know Harry confessed that he loves me, but after the humiliating scene my father caused in front of the entire pack, I doubt he'll want to see me again. As a werewolf, Harry loves me just as much as I love him. But he's also the Alpha of the Grayfang Pack, he has a duty to fulfill. I'm terrified that if he has to choose between the pack and me… He'll choose his duty as Alpha. "I don't know what to do," I confess desperately. “Well then, let’s see if you’ve got the backbone to back up that threat.” He stepped even closer, his body heat, or lack of it, was swallowing me whole. The candles around us flickered wildly like something was messing with the air. That’s when I noticed it. Up close like this, his lips parted just enough to show the sharp points of fangs where normal teeth should be. Not subtle little ones either, real vampire fangs, glinting in the low light. My stomach dropped. “Wait… you’re…” The words stuck in my throat for a second. “You’re a vampire, a real one. That’s what this whole blood pact thing is about, isn’t it?”

It made my stomach churn, almost causing me to gag. Dorian was one of the most powerful vampires, sitting right below his father. It was strange, though, considering his eyes. Most vampires had pure-blood eyes, and yet his were brown with only red encircling the iris. Earlier, when he severed Mr. Cliff’s arm, his eyes had been the color they were supposed to be, but they were back to that odd coloring, so unlike a pureblood’s. Perhaps the prince was unique in his own way, too, and that was why he didn’t treat me the way other members of nobility treated their pets.

His lips pulled into a lazy smile, but his eyes were sharp and hungry. One look at him and I knew — vampire. My shoulders tensed on instinct. “Well, hello,” he drawled. “Have you, by any chance, seen my beautiful boy? Short, dark hair. Pretty blue eyes. Running through the hallways?” I forced my voice to stay steady. “Um… no. Maybe he ran down that way.” I pointed down the hall. “I heard noise earlier, but I didn’t check, so he probably went there.” I stepped forward a little, on purpose, blocking his view into the room.

Between them, they could fix everything with not only the council but the people of Zidiah. The people of Zidiah lined the streets the day of Harry’s funeral. Even though I wasn’t there, our people were there to support Bastian and me in our grief, and I will be forever grateful. But something has to be done to make them forget what they know. If I know my mother, she’ll put a vampiric glamour over the people of Zidiah and the surrounding packs. No one will remember the day Harry Ashworth-Dalgaard died, and if I have my way, they won’t remember that Harry isn’t biologically mine and Bastian’s either. Mum will somehow get through to Dad; she always does.
