He paused.
"There's dragon blood in you, girl. Just enough to make you mine."
My knees weakened, but I didn’t fall. I couldn’t. Something inside me, some echo of heat, of ancient instinct, refused to cower.
Vaelith smirked. “Still fighting it.”
“I won’t beg,” I said. “Not for you.”
“Not yet.”
He reached into the chest beside the bed and pulled out a device made of gleaming black metal. It looked like a wand but it pulsed, alive with a low red glow. He turned a rune, and the wand began to hum with dark energy.
