My heart pounded in my chest as the snake coiled, ready to strike again.
Just then, the door burst open, and Darius stormed in, his eyes blazing. Without hesitation, he moved between me and the snake. In one swift motion, he grabbed a nearby object—a heavy book—and crushed the creature’s head. Its lifeless body fell to the floor, and I let out a shaky breath.
“Liana,” Darius said, rushing to my side. “Are you hurt?”
I shook my head, tears streaming down my face. He pulled me into his arms, holding me tightly. “It’s okay,” he murmured. “You’re safe now.” I clutched him with dear life as I trembled.
