I opened it, expecting Viktor or one of the trainers. Instead, I found Arthur standing there, and beside him, Aurora. “What are you doing here?” Arthur stepped forward. “We’ve come to rescue you.” For a moment, I just stared at them. Rescue? The word felt meaningless. Why would I need rescuing?

Strong arms wrapped around her, pulling her away from the worst of the blast. "Don't be afraid, I'm here," a deep voice murmured against her hair. Through the smoke and debris, Aurora couldn't see who had come to her rescue. Who was it? Who had protected her? Who had taken the brunt of the blast, refusing to let go, their hand bloody as they pulled her into a crevice created by the collapsing wall? Outside the burning hunting lodge, Dominic Blackwood stood in shock, tears streaming down his face. He didn't know why he was crying – for his own cruelty or for Aurora's tragic fate.

Without thinking, Aurora grabbed it. The person who had carried her was standing near the door. Aurora could see him better now in the firelight. He was tall and strong with dark hair and green eyes. He looked familiar but Aurora's confused mind did not recognize him. "Stay away from me!" Aurora screamed. The knife shook in her hands. "Aurora, it is me," the man said. His voice was gentle and worried. "It is Arthur. I came to save you." But Aurora did not hear his words right. The potion made them sound twisted and evil. All she knew was that a strange man had taken her to a strange place. And she had to protect herself.
