After a moment of silence, she whispered, “They say this place is haunted.” Jackson’s jaw tightened as he struggled with a response. Should he admit to her that he agreed with the rumor? Dad suddenly looked up, his eyes wide with disbelief as his face darkened. That was none other than Jayson's voice!

She hasn't slept more than an hour at a time since the funeral. "It’s grief, Clara. Auditory hallucinations," I lied, though my own hands were shaking so hard I had to hide them under the duvet. But then, the monitor on the nightstand hissed. The static cleared, and for a moment, the room was silent. Then came a voice—low, distorted, yet unmistakably mimicking the soft "coo" Lily used to make. Except, underlying the sound was a wet, tearing noise, like paper being ripped underwater.

The line rang only once before she answered groggily. “Hello?” Her voice carried irritation and exhaustion. “Say something!” I smiled coldly. “Don’t you have nightmares when you sleep?” There was instant silence. I practically heard the rustle of her bedsheets as she rushed out of bed. My wolf’s eyes gleamed viciously. A few seconds later, Laura’s voice returned, colder now. “Who is this?” I leaned back slightly while the sound of crashing waves echoed loudly behind me. “You don’t recognize my voice?”

"Looks like you've already forgotten what happened last night. Let me help you refresh your memory." The large screen behind me lit up, playing the explicit footage of him and Claudia from the night before. James stared in horror. He and Claudia screamed hysterically, "Turn it off! Shut it down now!" Claudia rushed onto the stage, her face contorted with rage. "You've crossed the line, Layla!" "Crossed the line?" I sneered. "Did either of you ever think about that when you betrayed and humiliated me?" The murmurs in the crowd grew louder.

“Why are you helping me?” “My name is Dylan, and I work with the government. I and my team are on an assignment to haunt criminals like Mr. Romenetti. But for now, our duty is to get his hostages out. We've done it before, and we are doing it again. What matters is your freedom, we will discuss the rest of the story later.” If my heart was once beating, I felt it relax like I had been poured an ice water. I nodded. “Alright then, let's get out of here.”

I met her gaze head-on. “I’m Laura, from Room 6B downstairs. I get that you love a good party, but other people are trying to sleep. Your music is too damn loud. Will you turn it down?” It was unnerving to be staring at someone who looked so much like me but wasn’t related in any way. Wasn’t there some old superstition about doppelgängers being a bad omen?

“ Meara!” The whispers started again, soft but notable. I tensed, my eyes snapping open. I scanned the field, but there was no one in sight. The sound seemed to come from the tree itself, from the rustling of its leaves. I pressed my palms against the rough bark and closed my eyes, focusing on the whispers. " Come... find... me..." The words were faint but distinct. My heart raced. Was I losing my mind, or was there something more to these whispers? I stood up, brushing the dirt off my jeans, and took a few steps back. The whispers grew louder, more insistent.
