I whisper to myself. The beat drops. I step into the light.

Was all he said and the call ended. This is the second shock I was getting in a day. When was the last time I blinked? I didn't realize I hadn't blinked until I started feeling my eyes tear up from being open for too long. “What did you just say?" I didn't know who the question was for either because the line was dead. I staggered as I blinked, the reality of what he just said hit me all over again like a tornado. “Oh my … God!” I shakily went back to sit on the toilet seat.

My hands instinctively grab my head as I fight my heavy eyelids. My vision is blurred out and I continously blink to try and bring my eyes into focus in the darkness. What the hell is going on? In my peripheral vision I see someone enter the room and attend to the thing making the buzzing noise. From what I can see it looks like a drip, an IV or something. I squint my eyes to try and see. Where the hell am I? “Roman,” I whisper through a gravelly throat. “Baby, what are you doing?”

I mutter. She tilts her head and his brow creases. “Excuse me?” Oh shit. I talked to myself. Out loud. That wasn’t supposed to happen. “Nothing. I was just … nothing.” I am busy with my hands because I don’t trust myself, I don't feel anything again as my eyes rose to a sight I would say I'm hallucinating. A fresh black suit and the jawline that was chiselled, his height and I could only hear the sound of the board clattering to the ground.

🦪 DALE LAZARUS 🦪 Footsteps move closer to me, and I slam my eyes shut, still trying to figure out my exact location or trace the voice to the owner. One thing is for sure: there is indeed a stutter in my brain. “You ever wonder why your room clock skips five minutes every time you blink? Or why does people’s voice sound like it’s coming from under the swimming pool? It’s not the adrenaline,” the voice continues, and I heighten my senses.

I can hear my own heartbeat. I try to open my eyes and they work for a brief moment. I see a blurred image of Lizzie comforting my mother. I feel my head begin to swirl. I smile a silly smile and my eyes close. Now I’m alone with only my thoughts. But even my thoughts seem to be getting more quiet. I then black out.

I just kept talking, wanting my voice to dominate over the eerie sounds of the winds blowing against the trees. Wiping my face with the back of my hand, a low light shimmered brightly against my eyes, almost blinding me. Shielding my eyes, I moved away a little and tried to blink multiple times to adjust to the bright light it shone with. Blinking I tried to get rid of the tears that soaked my sensitive eyes, and the blurriness that invaded my vision.

'Dearest Jossie. My lips parted as I talked to myself. This is me. I was talking into a mirror. "What did you do?" My voice ripped the halls in a thunder clap. What have I done indeed? My eyes blinked uncontrollably . It felt different this time... At least I thought so. That was until the lights began to follow my eyes.

The water wasn't enough to chill the warmth burning in my chest, but it had slowled down my thoughts a little. I stared at myself for a very long time, as tear drops fell from my chin and my breathing began to slow down. Then a loud sound wave cut through the air while I was still staring at myself in the mirror. At first I thought I was hearing things and then it got louder. I paused as I, listened. The sound was violent, and sounded like though big metal machines were suddenly coming to life.

For a heartbeat, she could’ve sworn the mirror blinked. She stepped closer, her voice a whisper. “You can hear me, can’t you?”
