Adeline’s POV I woke with my cheek pressed into something cold and wet. For a few seconds, I just lay there, barely awake, listening to the faint sound of water moving somewhere beside me. I slowly opened my eyes and found myself staring at a tangle of reeds. Murky water pooled between them and sunlight was already slipping through the trees above. Where was I?

I tightened my grip on Chloe's hand. Adeline grabs a rather greasy-looking prisoner at the beginning of the line and smiles before plunging the knife she is holding into the top of his head. Chloe gasps, and I cover my mouth so my scream of horror doesn't escape. The other prisoners in line begin to beg but the siblings ignore them. They act as if they can't even hear them begging for forgiveness.
