Riding My Father-in-Law
Every motion carried a sense of liveliness, yet a dull ache lingered in her chest, knowing that with every passing day, their separation drew closer.
As she stood on a small chair to adjust the edge of the curtain, the wind outside suddenly howled. A freezing draft seeped through the window right along with it. Moments later, a loud, threatening boom of thunder echoed, followed by a sharp flash of lightning that temporarily illuminated the dark room.
"Oh, goodness!" Adeline shrieked in sheer surprise. Panicking, she nearly slipped off the chair, scrambling down quickly while clutching the fabric. As more thunder and lightning followed, fear overtook her, and she broke into tears.
