Hayden’s smile was genuine, his eyes sparkling like the frost on the arena glass. I felt a lump in my throat. Every jagged memory of the accusations back in Mysticfall seemed to melt away in the warmth of his gaze. After we ate, I took him to the Great Kingdom Science Hub. I knew better than to suggest a hockey game or the bustling markets; Hayden had never been interested in typical pup games. He lived for equations, circuitry, and the hidden mechanics of the world. Walking toward the exhibit, Hayden kept stealing glances at my midsection. It had been weeks since we’d been together, and the bump was becoming impossible to ignore under my heavy furs.

Hayden looked stunned. “The plague has greatly reduced a lot of things happening in the pack, and that’s why few wolves are going on the hunt tonight,” I explained. “It’s difficult for me to understand all your werewolf stories; I get confused more often than not.” Hayden shrugged, turning on the car's ignition. “There’s a library where you can read up on our history and become familiar with questions you have no answer for,” I said as the car sped away from the laboratory. “Do you think Aiden and Damon will ever ease up on hating me?” Hayden asked. His eyes were fixed on the road ahead, but I could feel them on me.

Hayden dialed her number again, walking outside like he was on a mission. Her phone was still off, and he came back to ask for the security footage. The cashier started playing it, and just as Yara appeared on the screen, Hayden's phone rang. We were standing right next to each other, so I heard the voice loud and clear: "Hayden, your girl's here having coffee with me. You want to come pick her up?"

EDEN The study door is slightly ajar, warm light slipping into the hallway. I push it open gently with my hip, balancing a small tray in my hands. Fresh-cut strawberries and a tall glass of iced lemon water with a sprig of mint. Hayden is at his desk, his glasses perched low on his nose, the soft glow of the monitor casting shadows across his face. His hair is tousled, dark strands falling over his forehead. The sleeves of his black button-down are rolled up to his elbows, revealing the strong lines of his forearms.

"Maybe they are with their family now, it’s their holiday, just leave them be." Room Markings indicated that they had passed the Library, a few lecture rooms and the dining room, then they arrived at the dormitory room. Hayden went straight up to the door and knocked loudly, the door opened by a fat, gray-haired beauty, she was wearing a red dress fitted badly and puckered at the waist.

Instead, they had their eyes forward and straight to doing their jobs, of not allowing any unfamiliar person into the compound. Without further wasting of time at their inability to see Hendrix, Ayden led the way to the city library that was quite a distance from the Haystars family. Azalea had only heard about the place quite a number of times, but never the time or opportunity to go there as she was always working. And there were even rumors those times that only the nobles, could get a free pass and mostly make use of the library.

I expect him to stay gone until supper. But one supper has come and passed and I can’t reach him by mind link and after paying closer attention to our bond even though it feels muted lately, right now it’s all but non-existent. Calling Haylee over to watch the kids after putting them to bed, I rush out to the library. Public places don’t close here at night, so anyone could go to the library at any hour. I push through the door and am calmed instantly when I can smell him. I rush through the library, coming upon his table where he is, with his head laying on it.

"Hayden!" Kimberly yelled his name, storming towards his room. Without a notice, she pushed his door open and walked into the room but it was empty, Hayden was not home. "Hayden.... How could he not tell me that Alpha Leandro is now at the moon mansion with Larisa. He definitely knows about it but kept me in the dark. While I am here thinking of finding a woman for him, he does not care about my man being taken away from me" she fumed furiously.

ELLA’S POV If someone had told me a month ago that I’d be sitting across from Hayden Carter in the library helping him study, I would’ve laughed in their face. Now here we are. The quiet section of the campus library smells like old paper and coffee. Sunlight filters through the tall windows, stretching across the long wooden table between us. Hayden sits across from me, leaning back in his chair, as he would rather be anywhere else. His textbook is open but his notebook is empty……Typical.

My initial excitement at finally being able to see Hayden’s home had all but vanished at that point. The real problem was that apart from the first few rooms, I felt like the other rooms didn’t have any personal connection to Hayden at all. I mean, how often does he actually visit the library. Maybe he does but Hayden doesn’t look like a bookworm kind of guy at all. I found it very hard picturing Hayden sitting still and composed as he read a book in the library. I shook my head to clear that strange and unfitting image away from my head before it began to stick. That was when I realized that I wanted to know more about Hayden’s lifestyle and how he spent his time in the house. For instance…
