As we neared it, the words from her premonition came to me. “What you hold close to the heart will not survive. For war is a field of no rules and morality, something you know of. His eyes scan the garden Then he freezes. “What?” I ask. “What is it?” He reaches out, plucking something from the windowsill. When he turns back to me, my stomach drops. In his hand is a playing card. The queen of hearts. And my face is on it. My chest tightens, and for a moment, I can’t breathe. It’s not the first time I’ve seen this card.. I saw one just like it at the charity gala a few nights ago. Someone is turning my life into a nightmare, and I don’t know how much longer I can hold on

She gives me a smile that only a loving mum can, one of those ones that's meant to both encourage and relax at the same time. I split the cards and watch as she flips them over one by one. "Ok." She leans forward and gives me a comforting smile. "All of these tell me one thing, you're in love, you have been for a while, but for some reason, you're denying yourself." She gestures over the cards as though they explain everything she's saying and I tell myself I don't believe in it, but somewhere deep inside, a little flutter of panic is developing. A noticeable tension gripped my chest as I hoped she had taken my card with her. With my heart pounding against my ribcage, I approached the table, yearning for a sign that she had carried the card. The card itself possessed a tracking chip, a potential lifeline to finding her. As I sifted through the box, a sigh of relief escaped my lips. She had indeed taken the black card, presumably for the monetary assistance it offered.

"Got one!" Rana yelled. She snatched a diamond card with a written '6' on it. "Here!" Megera shouted next as he pulled out a heart card with a written '3' on it. I found the next one, a spades with the number '0' on it. But the last one was nowhere to be found. We turned every single card over. "It's not here. They must've forgotten it!" Rana fearfully said.

Her tone was serious. I nodded. With the motivation of cookies and muffins, I hovered my hand over the cards. I did not rush it even though my tummy was aching for the promised muffins. The things I do for food. I picked one and without flipping it over I placed it aside. I did the same with three others. When she saw I was done she put the others into a deck and placed them on the side. She then flipped the first card I picked out. It was upright, facing me. The lovers , it was written in bold cursive black letters. Kogo was silent for a moment as she stared at her card.

He kept his eyes on her hands. After a moment she reached up and touched his jaw. Her thumb moved across his cheek. "You're awful quiet. Is everything okay?" He closed his eyes. Leaned into her hand. "It is now," he said. She watched him for another moment. Then she went back to her cards. "Look," she said after a while. She held one up. King of Hearts. "I found you." He took it from her. Turned it over. "Did you know the King of Hearts is the only face card with four hands? The others only have two."

I argued, looking directly at Hudson and after a moment he slowly sat back down and the rest followed. Even though Amelia didn’t look too pleased by it she did join in. And everyone had their eyes fixed on me, the tension hanging in the air as I moved my fingers to one of the cards. Slowly, I turned one over while holding Hudson’s gaze and the audience gasped loudly from the image on the card, “Ace of Hearts!”

He remained on his seat while looking at me curiously. "Yearn for my yes. Telling you that I like you too doesn't mean I already said my yes. Prove yourself first!" Then I stuck my tounge out and went out of the rooftop. Upon closing the door, I could feel the heat that resting on my cheeks and the rapidly beating of my heart in my chest. It felt like any moment from now, my heart would make an explosion inside my ribcage. Parker is the only person who could do such things on me.

She hates me, and she knows I hate her, but ironically, my body doesn't. I decided to play cards after I came out of the shower. I need to clear my mind. When things get tense, I always turn to play cards to de-stress. This is where I feel most at ease. For most people, cards and numbers are complicated, and they are the polar opposite of rest, yet for me, this is what rest looks like. Cards are my friends; they will never betray me or deceive me because I can read them. It may sound weird, but this is who I am.
