Row upon row of massive, complex metallic structures filled the cavern. They looked like precursors to the brass automatons we had fought, but they were sleeker, darker, and forged from an unknown, indestructible black metal. Thick cables ran across the ceiling, pulsing with dormant, trapped geothermal energy.
"By the First Kings," I breathed, walking slowly past a massive, skeletal frame of a mechanical beast. "This is not an armory. This is a laboratory."
"A factory," Ashren corrected, his voice a low, vibrating rumble. He walked over to a colossal stone table in the center of the room. The table was covered in enormous, perfectly preserved parchment blueprints.
