The cup shattered. The veins on his neck thickened. They spread to his jaw. His eyes turned a shade darker. “Mira,” he rumbled. The voice wasn't entirely his. “What are you hiding?” I backed away. “Nothing! I swear!” He rounded the table. He moved with unnatural speed. The dark lines crawled up his cheeks. His pupils dilated until his eyes were almost black pools. My eyes widened in horror. He reached out. His fingers elongated. Dark sharp claws extended from his fingertips.

She clawed at the sheets, her eyes wide and fixed on the ceiling. "They... they found the frequency," she whispered, her voice layered with the static of a thousand screaming souls. "The Harvesters. They aren't breaking the door, Killian. They're walking through the light." A shadow detached itself from the corner of the room. It wasn't a wolf, and it wasn't a man. It was a jagged, multi-limbed nightmare of smoke and obsidian claws, its "face" a swirling vortex of violet energy. It moved with a sickening, stuttering grace, appearing three feet closer with every blink of the eye.

Hazel’s body twitched in her sleep, her mind trapped in the darkness of a nightmare. The same man appeared—the one from before. His voice was deep and chilling, sending shivers through her.
