I said casually. She was quiet for a moment before she finally replied. "Alright then," and then the call ended. After Dylan said that she was the culprit yesterday, I had come up with ideas on how to handle the matter. Once it was the agreed time, I drove to the location and waited outside for her. There was a floor-to-ceiling window beside me so I took in the view of the city beside me. It was absolutely beautiful. It had been over an hour but still no sign of Elizabeth but I still patiently waited for her until it clocked a few minutes past six before she finally arrived, looking all high and mighty.

"Where's Nina? Where is she? I'm coming right now. Please make sure you keep her there!" He hastily hung up and rushed to his car without explaining to the police, speeding toward City Hall. Even though he ran countless red lights and was cursed at by numerous pedestrians, he did not care at all. Bursting into City Hall, Vincent looked around but did not see me anywhere. "Where's Nina? She still won't see me? Please ask her to come out. I need to talk to her." The City Hall staff member shook his head. "Sorry, I can't do that. Ms. Bennett isn't here at all. She left the agreement and departed. If you have any objections, you can discuss them directly with us."

He looked at me for a long moment. "Good," he said. With the particular, complete conviction of a man who had been waiting for exactly that sentence. "That is exactly what I wanted to hear." We looked at each other across the kitchen table. Outside, April Chicago went about its business — the longer evening, the committed sun finally gone now and the streetlights coming on, the El somewhere blocks away, the ordinary magnificent percussion of a city that had held this woman through the hardest year of her life and was now holding her through the beginning of what came after.

She took a cab to the city hall. On getting there, Finn and his lawyer were yet to arrive. She glanced at her wrist watch. It was almost Ten PM. She picked up her phone and dialed the lawyer’s number. On the second ring, the call was connected. “Hello, Mr. Attorney!” “Ms Powers, hello! My client is still having breakfast, could you wait a moment, we’ll be there soon.” Rina frowned and said coldly, “Mr Attorney, I have an appointment for the next hour, could you not delay me further?”

Rhett got into his Bentley rather fast and drove out, giving the impression that he was actually pressed for time. The entire scene seemed unreal as Haley stood there empty-handed and watched couples leave City Hall looking absurdly joyful. As if she had recently tied the knot in a dream or something. However, whatever. That didn't matter. The fact that she could finally provide her grandfather with the response he had been waiting for was what mattered.

“Can’t we obtain the certificate tomorrow?” Waylon stopped in front of the car and turned to look at her. “Tomorrow is a Saturday, and the city hall is closed on the weekend.” She crossed her arms. “Another two days of waiting won’t make any difference, right?” He stretched out his hand and took the lady into his arms. “Don’t you want to get your cards unfrozen?” Cameron was rendered speechless. He told himself to stay calm, but his heart was pounding faster by the second. He ran outside, got into his car, and drove straight to City Hall Plaza--the last place Cecilia had been seen. The plaza was still empty. Only a few sanitation workers were cleaning up trash. Under the blazing sun, the entire square felt like a massive oven.
