Raisel’s POV The hidden door slid open, revealing the secret room next to Soren’s home. The faint sound of the shelf grinding against the floor made me shiver. “So, you moved all your things into a hidden office,” I murmured, my voice low as he flicked on the lights.

“Take Monica and Aria through the tunnel.” Tunnel? “What tunnel?” Monica cried. But David was already moving toward one of the metal shelves against the wall. He shoved it aside roughly, revealing a hidden steel door behind it. My eyes widened. “This house has a secret tunnel?!” David punched in a code quickly while blood continued dripping from his side. The steel door slowly opened. Darkness waited on the other side. Cool air rushed out immediately. Vivian suddenly grabbed my wrist before I could move. Her long nails brushed softly against my skin.

Despite everything— A tiny laugh escaped her. Adrian’s mouth twitched slightly. Then his expression darkened again quickly. “We need to move now.” The doorknob shook harder. Someone slammed against the door violently. Elaine’s heartbeat thundered. Adrian shoved the wardrobe aside quickly, revealing a narrow hidden passage behind it. Elaine stared. “…You weren’t joking.” “Move.” They slipped inside just as the bedroom door burst open behind them. Voices shouted instantly. “Search everywhere!” Adrian pulled the hidden door shut quietly behind them.

And I'm taking my chances. Fuck! This damn door is not silent. Now I have the attention of the whole store. I don't check to see if they saw or heard me, I just enter and let the nosy as fuck door to swing closed. There is a hallway in here with five doors. Opening door one, it's nothing but meat. I could hide in here but there is a chance that i might end up being disgusted by it. So door one is not an option. Door two looks like a typical hiding spot in movies. It is a toilet. Women's toilets. There's currently no one in here but I would not have minded seeing some ass by 'mistake'.

We descend together. The air cools incrementally with each step. Not enough to fog breath, but enough to make skin tighten. The walls shift from pale stone to darker granite. Lighting embedded along the floor casts upward glows that eliminate heavy shadows. Deliberate design. No corners for concealment. No blind spots. We reach a pair of black metal doors. No handle. They open inward soundlessly like the hall doors. The technology here is quite modern an forward. Are the doors sensor biometric?

The annex door gave easier than it should have. Voss stopped Adrian with a hand before he could push through. "That's not resistance failure. That's a door somebody left unlatched on purpose." Adrian was already looking past the frame, at the seam where the hinge met the wall. "Claimant corridors run a secondary bolt behind the visible one. If the visible lock gives easy, the second one's still live." He reached past the handle, found the recessed panel exactly where memory said it would be, and thumbed it dark. "There. Now it's actually open."

“I swear no one will see you.” He hesitates but stands, brushing the dirt from his hands as he glances around cautiously. He follows me in silence. When we reach the wall, I move quickly, unlocking the gate hidden in plain sight. I step through and hold it open for him. His brows furrow as he surveys the shed ahead. “This is it?” I don’t answer, just open the shed door and step inside. He lingers, eyes scanning the area before following me. Inside, I crouch and open a concealed door in the floor, leading to the tunnels beneath.

Hollow. She stepped into the hallway, heart thudding in her chest, and began checking each room with meticulous precision. Her mother’s study: untouched. The parlor: too clean. The kitchen: empty. Then, as she turned toward the east wing—a part of the house she almost never entered—her foot caught on a ridge in the carpet. A ripple. Like something beneath it. She knelt, pulled back the edge, and uncovered a seam. A hidden door. Old. Dusty. With a latch so well concealed it looked decorative.

A shape. She pushed the vines aside. There was a door. It was made of the same grey metal as Kael’s box. It was old and scarred, almost completely grown over by the forest. But it was there. Set right into the rock. And in the center of the door was a small, dark panel, just like the one on the maintenance hatch in the old processing room. A secret door. Powered by a drain from the Heartwood itself. Sela and Leo stared at it, their tools hanging forgotten in their hands. The theory was no longer a theory. The ghost was real.

It had a bed, a window with bars, and a heavy oak door reinforced with iron. Kael pushed her inside. Holly stumbled to the center of the room. She wrapped her arms around herself, shivering. Kael stood in the doorway, keeping his hand on the heavy iron latch. "Kael," Holly whispered. "Don't leave me here." Kael didn't answer. He stepped back into the hallway and pulled the heavy door shut. THUD. The sound echoed like a gunshot. Kael slid the bolt home. Click. Then he turned the key. Click.
