But now I became hesitant even though I was excited in the forest. Seeing my hesitation, Evelyn sucked on my waist. "Step up; Alpha is waiting for you." Done, she pulled up her sleeve to reveal a tattoo. "My tattoo is here." This is the first time I've seen it at such a close distance. It's a very delicate tattoo. The symbol of the Black Moon, surrounded by a black moon, in the center is an image of a mighty black wolf sitting with its back to the moon. It's haughtily, as soon as I saw it, I loved it.

My breath catches in my throat. The dragon tattoo between my shoulder blades pulses once, hard, as if responding to his presence. He rises from his stool in one fluid motion, and my mouth goes dry. He's tall — six-three at least — with the kind of build that speaks of disciplined strength rather than vanity. His black t-shirt stretches across broad shoulders, the sleeves tight around biceps marked with intricate tattoos. Not random ink, but scales — dragon scales — flowing from wrist to shoulder in patterns that seem to shift in the low light.

I let Echo push forward and my eyes flashed yellow. His eyes flashed yellow in return and he bowed his head slightly. “You’ll want the special treatment.” Because of our healing we needed to use special ink for the tattoos to remain on our skin. For dragonkin they mixed Dragon’s Lily with the ink so the healing doesn’t kick in and for vampires they mixed Angel’s Trumpet. “He’s a vampire, do you have special ink for him?” The old man sized Milo up and then looked back at me. “Vampires and Dragonkin don’t usually mingle, but yes I have some in stock.”

A tremor rolls beneath it like a beast stirring in its grave. Then I see it: a mural, buried under centuries of soot. A black-eyed dragon with its mouth open wide and branded on its neck is the sigil of the Boundless. My breath catches. They were here. “You’re not supposed to be here,” I growl before I even hear his footsteps. Elen steps from the shadows like the wind itself, silent, swift and uninvited. His long braid swings down his back, and his eyes glint like forged silver.

"The tattoo on the man who held them captive. The man who... who might have killed Nathan and... and Hero's parents.” "Okay, slow down," Kristina said, her tone gentle. "You said you knew the person? What are you talking about?" "The red dragon," I repeated, my hands shaking. "But it's not just a dragon. It's... it's symbolic. It has wings folded along the wolf's back, and a crown hovering above. The wolf... it's like it's becoming a dragon. Like it's going to be a ruler.” Kristina nodded slowly, her eyes fixed on mine. "Okay. That's... that's a very specific image. Where did you see this tattoo?"

He looked cute; if not for the black appearance, I could have considered dating him. Nah! He took a step back. "I... I don't want to rape you." He stammered. "We'll just have a nice time together." "Yeah, do I look like a kid to you?" I questioned him. He really was dumb. Or was he trying to play a nice guy? My eyes caught the tattoo drawing which was on his upper arm. It was something like a dragon. Oh no. All the blood drained from my face and I turned pale. My mind went back to the neighborhood I was in; there was a gang that troubled the neighborhood so much that they became something like their kings.

Theo threw a piece of the shirt at her. It wasn’t particularly her shirt, she sensed. Running her fingers over the silk, she could feel it. Bringing it closer to her eyes, she realized it was a black shirt. “Wear it,” Theo muttered, reaching for a leather electric shock collar. He sighed, watching her as she pulled on the shirt. He walked toward her and pulled her neck close. Fastening the collar around her neck, he said, “Drake has a dragon tattoo on the left side of his neck. Short curly hair. Black-framed specs. Dark brown eyes.”

It was a black dragon with wings, surrounded by black roses. “You have a weird tattoo,” I commented out of the blue. He lowered his gaze to his forearm. “All members of the Anderson Mafia have this kind of tattoo. It serves as our identification.” I fell silent, staring at it intently. For some unknown reason, that symbol is familiar to me. I tried to dig into my memory to recall where I’d seen that tattoo before, but it only caused my head to ache, prompting me to rub my temples. Cole quickly attended to me.

It was layered and luxurious. He put the box down gently. "This is the wedding gown of the Black Dragon Queen. The decorative scales are the most solid of my scales." I turned to look and met his clear, amber eyes. He had sharp features and warm air about him. He was nothing like the malicious Black Dragon everyone talked about. "It's the first time a Black Dragon is in a marriage alliance with the Human Clan. We are preparing this wedding with the highest honors. Let me know if you need anything else."

It was the ink. A dragon, winding up from his chest, the tail curling along his ribs, the head climbing over his collarbone and stretching up the length of his left arm, almost entirely sleeved in intricate black and gray tattoo work. Scales, smoke, fire—details that felt as much like armor as art. This wasn't some impulsive drunken mistake. This was deliberate, meaningful. A story etched upon his skin. His throat, too, was fully covered in inked. And then—
