I didn't know what it meant, only that something could happen to Darius. Without knowing what kind of black magic he possessed, it was impossible to detect the outcome. However, once ALpha Xander overtook Darius, I knew that he must be using a spell or something to prevent him from being injured, and increase his energy. When I saw Darius go down, I didn't even think, rather just reacted."

I say hoarsely. Dax glances back at me, eyes clear for the first time since Nyxara took him. “You already saved me,” he says softly. “Now save him.” The ground shakes violently, and the fight explodes. Dax launches forward with a roar, slamming into the nightmares with brutal force. Shadow and blood and screaming bodies collide in a violent tangle. I couldn't even think straight. All I could see was him, Xavier, standing there, calm and unshaken, his arm protectively wrapped around her.

Her cold voice carries across the ruins, “I gave you a week… Now, give me my mate or I burn this place to the ground.” The doors open. Twelve council members step out in ceremonial robes, led by their High Chair, Daelor, an ancient wolf whose arrogance reeks even from here. He snorts. “You think a few parlor tricks make you a threat? We are the most powerful forces on the continent, girl. You are nothing compared to us.” Then he gestures forward, “Kill her. When she’s dead, we’ll reunite her corpse with her precious mate.” A hush falls. Sadie doesn’t scream or rage; she simply says, “So be it.”

I gasped. Sarah turned to the window too. The mansion gate opened, and I saw the convoy of black luxury SUVs with tinted glass all running into our compound. A biker in front of the vehicles carried the familiar banner, a black flag with a red dragon at the center. It's the one symbol all citizens of Valdoria recognized. The banner of RED DRAGON, the most powerful man in the country and beyond. He was the leader of the Durango Cartel and a godfather to almost every powerful man in the country today, including my dad.

A large map of the Great Divide lay unrolled across a heavy slab of polished basalt, held down at the corners by brass compasses and steel weights. I stood over the map, tracing the dark ink line that marked the northernmost border of the old High Council territories. My fingers, steady and free of the nervous tremors that once defined the crucible days, paused at the Red Pass. Beneath my fitted leather doublet, the quiet warmth of my hybrid core hummed with a smooth, unhurried cadence—a living anchor that made the biting mountain draft feel like nothing more than a passing whisper.

I watched the shreds of paper fly everywhere and let out a tired sigh. Some landed on my shoulder. I brushed them off. "This is a public place," I said calmly. "Don't litter." Damon frowned. Of all the things I could have said, that was what came out? His hands dropped to his sides. The last scraps of paper fell from his fingers. He kicked the scraps aside with his foot and grabbed my arm again, trying to pull me away from the security line. "I don't accept that agreement. Let's re-mate—right now. We'll go to the elders. We'll fix this."

You can delete it. The man answered easily, adding to Audrey's annoyance. Again, the man sent many pictures of some of the men in the Red Cage, including Jaxon who was red-faced with anger, Gideon who was smiling while looking at his phone, just like Kalista now, and Danny who was calling while standing.
