He mumbles, looking down at his desk. “I’m glad to hear that. Now, if that’s the case, can you please be Ainsley’s helper and introduce her to everyone this week?” She sounds nicer now. “Alright, Miss Ratner.” His eyes brighten up. He looks at me and smiles, “Hi! I’m Riley.” He has straight blonde hair that comes down to his chin. It’s a little tangled and looks like straw. I don’t think he brushed it this morning. He has hazel eyes and tan skin. He’s missing a couple of teeth that make his smile look funny.

It was too late, and Xenois seemed to realize that as well and yet his promises sounded like he was trying to convince himself either. The desperation in his tone made me smile as I relished in it. Soon, very soon, that desperation would drive him straight into my arms. "I don't know!" Riley cried, following the script I'd given him perfectly, not missing any line as he continued speaking. "We went for a drive and now we're lost and they're chasing us and Mommy told me to call you and—" That was my cue. I opened my mouth and let out a scream that would have made any horror movie actress proud.

"They'll see through it in an hour. Jax is there, Riley. He’s the captain of the defense. He hates me. He spends every single game trying to get under my skin, trying to find a weakness to exploit. He'll see your face, he'll see your eyes, and he'll know." Riley turned. She let the scissors hang by her side and looked her twin full in the face. With the hair gone, falling in messy clumps around her ears, the resemblance was terrifying. They had the same sharp jawline, the same slightly tilted nose, the same amber flecks in their irises. "Let him look," she said. "You're crazy. This isn't a movie. You’re going to get caught, and Mom is going to lose her mind."

Riley growled behind me and I chuckled how easily she lost control. "I'm sorry, baby. I don't know what came over me." Jax said, looking over my shoulder at Riley. "Don't say it again or I'll make you watch me eat that's hag's heart." She threatened. Jax laughed and I could see the color returning to his face. This weird goo really did work. "Only you." He said and sat up. "I should go and start getting things ready." I stood, knowing they needed sometime alone.

And Jax Harlan was not going to make things easy. Later that evening, when the sun started to set, Riley changed into a thin tank top and shorts and went downstairs. The pool lights were already on. Jax stood by the grill flipping burgers. He had changed into swim trunks that sat low on his hips. His back muscles moved as he worked. Jax looked over his shoulder when he heard Riley. “Food is almost ready. Come sit.” Riley sat at the outdoor table. The air was warm and the water in the pool looked inviting. They ate together and talked about safe things like college and work. But every time their eyes met the air felt charged again.

Behind him, Riley—equally bare, nipples peaked from the cooler air, hair falling in damp strands over her shoulders. They didn’t speak. Didn’t need to. Hudson stepped in close, chest to my back, arms caging me against the counter. His mouth found the side of my neck—soft kiss over one of the fresh bruises he’d left. “You good?” he murmured, voice low, rough from groaning my name. I nodded. Couldn’t find words yet. Riley slipped around to my front, hopping up to sit on the edge of the counter between the double sinks. She spread her thighs just enough that I was bracketed by her knees, her heat close enough I could feel it.

Cody, his hand having moved the curtain away from the window – starring down at us. XXX Hayley’s POV The hammering on the door made my heart plummet to my stomach and Hail drop was probably playing with it right now. Liam’s words vibrated through my brain and I sucked in a breath. What if it was the mountain-man? O goodness. I held on tighter to my stomach, biting my lip. “Hailstorm!” that voice. That wonderful voice. “Lacy!” I gasped, jumping up from the ground and fumbling with the doorknob. I threw the door open, seeing my two friends standing there. On instinct, I wrapped my arms around their necks, hugging them closely to me.

“He’s gone.” “Look at you. Glowing.” Riley smacked my arm. “Glowing and doing heroic shit for your cougar.” I rolled my eyes and gave her a playful shove. “Stop calling her that.” “Oh, come on.” Alex nudged me with his elbow. “You saved her career. You hacked a system, exposed a predator, and got the girl. That’s like… hot boy vigilante behavior.” “Is this what being loved looks like?” Riley said with mock sincerity. “Because it’s making me emotional.”

Her hair was coiled into dreadlocks streaked with blue, and her gaze lingered too long on Jaxon before she turned to Riley with arms crossed. “You’re bleeding pack now?” she asked Riley. “Hardly. I’m being babysat.” “By him?” She glanced at Jaxon again. “Your standards dropped, girl.” Jaxon raised a brow. “Pleasure to meet you, too.” “Didn’t say it was mutual.” Riley sighed. “Look, we need your help. You’ve seen the victims, right? The ones who were drained?” Romy’s smirk vanished.

" Zack reminded and just then, Riley returned to the office with a small file in her hand. "I don't think he is the one. If he is the one you both won't be alive right now. And I would have been grounded." Harris replied. Riley fell to her knees with tears in her eyes. "I don't want to die, My Lord. I came here to live after my family was wiped out but what if I end up…" "Riley, stand up now!" Harris Ordered and with much hesitation, she stood up to her feet. Harris walked toward her and when he was close enough, he wiped her tears and patted her shoulder.
