Crossing Lines
I continue, my voice rough, low, “this hasn’t been easy. I’m not easy, Lana. I never have been. I was made for control. For war.”
I swallow hard, letting the ache settle in my throat.
“But you’ve taught me something I never understood. That love—real love—isn’t about ease. It’s about choice. And I choose you. Every goddamn day.”
I hold her gaze. Let her see it all. Let her see the man who’s burned cities, who’s ruined men, now kneeling for the only thing that’s ever brought him to his knees.
“I will always choose you.”
The wind shifts, brushing strands of her hair across her face, carrying the scent of salt and skin and something soft and unmistakably her. It surrounds me, fills me.
