He paused, his gaze distant, as though gathering the words he needed to say.
“You’ve seen Khalid for what he is, haven’t you?”
His voice was calm, measured, but there was an undercurrent of something deeper in it.
“You see his flaws. His darkness. But you also see his love for you. The way he has fought for you. The way he would kill for you.”
I flinched, the word "kill" like a slap, but I didn’t argue.
It was the truth.
He had killed.
“But love is not perfect,” my father continued, his voice soft but unwavering. “Love is not always kind. Sometimes, it is born in darkness. Sometimes, it grows in ways we don’t expect, or want. But that does not mean it is not real.”
