I stood up quickly, the movement sudden in the tense room. “Stop. Just stop.”
Both of them looked at me, startled.
“She’s scared,” I said, my voice trembling with frustration. “She’s hurt, she’s sick, she can barely stand. Can you not see that?”
“That doesn’t make her safe, Florence,” Anthony replied, his gaze never leaving Angel. “It makes her unpredictable. It makes her a danger to herself and to this entire operation.”
Before I could answer, the front door burst open.
