Historical Fiction Books For 12 Year Olds Novels & Stories

It was a loud night, one where the sounds of crickets chirping could not be heard and the clouds smothered the moon and stars.

It was like searching for a needle in a haystack, and with every passing minute, the urgency only grew. But then, as I was about to give up for the night, something caught my eye—a small, weathered book tucked away on the bottom shelf. Its cover was faded, the title barely legible, but there was something about it that drew me in. I carefully pulled it from the shelf, the pages brittle and yellowed with age. The title read, *The Lost Chronicles: A History of the Ancient Magics*. My heart raced as I opened the book, scanning the pages for anything that might be relevant. It wasn’t long before I found a section that made my breath catch in my throat.

“Goodnight, mama.” I watched her walk out the door and I decided I should probably do the same. I was on my way down the stairs when I passed the second floor, home of the library. I paused and then darted inside. I went straight to the history section, and found myself facing two full aisles of books. I went down the first one and walked until I saw ‘Hollow Brook’. I grabbed the first book I saw and then a couple others as I thumbed over them. If I Was going to start learning the history of the packs, I may as well start with this one.

It could easily have been a school or a boarding school. Nathan's scent was in that hallway, so he assumed there must be something hidden there, but all he saw was an office. She went in, closing the door behind her. That place was the best place she had ever seen in her whole life, full of books and a lot of handwriting. She picked up the first book she found, and it was one of her favorites, only this was a first edition. She sat down on the nearest sofa and swung her legs up. The story takes place in rural England in the early 19th century.

She slipped them on and then went into the bathroom to brush her teeth to get ready for bed. Afterward, she lay in her bed and opened her book, a novel about living in the 1500s. A palace made of stone, a prince, and a banned relationship was involved. She licked her lips as she read the part about the prince; he was tall, dark, handsome, and of course, charming.

CHAPTER 1: DRAGONS It is a little past 8pm and the moon is full and well lit. It is bedtime for seven years old Elizabeth and she is all ready for bed. Teeth flossed, hair brushed and nighties worn. Her sister Historia a seventeen years old red head decides to spice up story time tonight. Instead of reading from the regular bedtime stories, she chooses to tell a story from an old fantasy novel. Historia tokes in her sister in place, as she stands up to dramatize the story with her red eyes wild open. Elizabeth packs her beautiful blond hair in a ponytail as she widens her red ruby eyes as well in suspense.

The Little Mermaid popped out at me, as did The Emperor's New Clothes, but I thought maybe a story that people are foolish in public wouldn’t be the best choice. Then I looked around some more and picked up Floca’s Moonshot: The Flight of Apollo 11, Lewis’s The Wolf, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, and Dahl’s Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, and a few others. I paused at the Harry Potter series, but while the girls were old enough, being werewolves, for the story, I knew the sizes of the books would put them off. Next year, I thought. They’d have handled textbooks by then and wouldn’t be so rapidly opposed to books an inch thick or more.

I’ve lived my life, protecting myself from the world, from disappointment, betrayal and lies, but with her, I began to bring down those walls until I didn’t even know when my feelings developed into so much more without even seeing a glimpse of her. I skim over her collection, Motorcycle Club, Mafia... Disney Villain tales… and then there are the classics that she accidentally slipped out that she reads before denying she read them. I crouch down. They may be at the bottom, but the books have been read and I can’t help but smile. She reached for a piece immediately—and hissed when it burned her fingers. “Careful. It’s hot.” I picked it up, blowing on it, cooling it down without thinking—like you would for a kid. “I do,” she said, and when I looked up, she was blushing. “I really do. I used to have a lot of books… but they’re all back at my parents’ house.” “I see. Then mine might seem boring. Most girls your age go for romance novels, and I don’t have many of those.” “You do have some amazing historical ones,” she said quickly. “I even saw a couple of my favorites.”

Draynon nodded and opened the book. He leafed through the book until he found the chapter that he was looking for. “Here we go. Now this was roughly 120 years ago, or four generations. It’s not so much a history book, but written similar to a novel to make the facts easier for the reader to remember, rather than just bombarding them with endless seeming names and numbers.” He coughed once to clear his throat and began reading from the book.
