We just sat there enjoying each other’s presence; her reading her book and me jamming to my music, even though I could barely hear what songs were playing through the thoughts that roamed my mind. I kept thinking about Emma and Anna and what I had to do with both of them. I’m in love with Emma, I know it’s real now because I’ve actually now verbally admitted it and to my parents at that. With Anna though, I mean I guess I love her, but being honest with myself, I wouldn’t say I was in love with her like I am Emma. Fuck.

The hockey team had a big drug scandal. Then Dr. Hartley died suddenly. After the death, the scandal disappeared. Alexander always felt something was wrong. But he never asked his father questions. He just played hockey. Now, the boy he wanted, the boy who made his body burn with need, was looking for a murderer. And he suspected Alexander's family. Alexander closed his eyes. He pictured Oliver naked in the pool. He pictured Oliver panting under him. He pictured Oliver looking at him with hate. "Fuck," Alexander whispered.

Let’s take a break for three months. I know it’ll be the longest break ever, but it’s just the way it is. I don’t expect to hear back from him. He’s in his own world of hurt right now. "Touchy subject. Got it. So is it daddy issues or new boyfriend issues? Because that look on your face screams 'man trouble.'" I pressed my fingers to my temples. "Why are you here, Ryan?" "Funny you should ask." He leaned forward, elbows on the table, grinning like the cat that ate the canary. "I got myself a hobby. Joined the NHL." I stared at him. Blinked. Stared some more. And more importantly, how badly most of them need someone smarter handling their money. My brother calls it my “empire” while I call it, a practical job. My assistant, Claire, looks up from her desk. Her dark hair is pulled into a loose knot while she flips through a stack of documents. “You’re early.” “Am I ever late?” She snorts softly. “Fair.”

"I'll see what I can do." Before he could engage her in further conversation she picked up The Cup and carried it into her office, kicking the door shut on the way. For a moment she just stood there, holding the giant iconic award. She was barely an average hockey fan. In fact, when Matt Vorchak chose hockey over her she came to bitterly resent the game. But here he was, holding his dreams in his arms.
