“Divorce her. If you do that, we can go back to how we were. We can be together again.”
My heart twisted painfully in my chest.
“I can’t divorce her,” I said quickly, almost desperately. “We need to be married for at least three months before a divorce can be filed. That is the law.”
I prayed those words would end the conversation.
They didn’t.
She looked at me, unshaken. “You’re the king,” she said calmly. “You made the rules. You can break them too.”
I had no answer.
I stood there, silent, exposed.
