A world map had been unrolled and pinned to the far wall with kitchen knives—because push pins were apparently too civilized. Cheyenne paced, barefoot, a half-eaten cookie in one hand and her phone in the other. She’d already answered five texts, three calls, and at least one semi-coherent voicemail from a witch in Iceland who claimed she saw a “blonde horse goddess galloping through the mist like a sign from Freya.”

I say, and he smirks. "You sought me out, Adahleene." He tsks, and I freeze. "I didn't. Leave." I say, mind reeling. "Easy," He says, hands crossed, with a persistent smile. "Before you call your sugar daddy, listen to me. I am Wilder, and you did seek me out, Flower. A part of you, your mind recognized it, and falted, seeking me out, hence, here I am." I stare at him, saying nothing, hoping he explains what this is, or I'll scream bloody murder, faster than he can say Flower.

It landed on the picture again, and as Flora was facing the photo, she saw the insect, she smiled subconsciously. "Hey..." Flora greeted softly. "Shall I have this Damien Castle for my guide?" She asked humorously. To her surprise, the butterfly flapped its wings twice, but it did not fly away. Flora stared at the butterfly intently. As she did, she thought her mind was playing tricks on her as she vaguely saw her grandma's face, smiling warmly at her. Flora moved her head back and blinked her eyes, but the butterfly must have been startled by her sudden move. It left its spot and went out the window again.

I may spend a lot of my time in my horse form, but I do change back at least once every few days to keep my human half alive, if I do not, I could end up losing myself for good, and that is something I am not prepared to do, and neither is blue. As I was drinking from a nearby creek, I heard a twig snap behind me, so I turned around to come face to face with the soon to be alpha. He looked into my eyes, and I bet all he could see was a wild spirit but deep down I was frightened! I mean come on I am only 4 in horse years.

I look at Honey and she has tears streaming down her face. “I’m sorry Melody. I had to go away for a while, but I’m back now. So, this is your big cat?” Honey says, changing the subject just as Harmony walks over. “You remembered. Yes, this is her. Is Brutus here?” Melody says and Honey chuckles before she looks at me and then at the woman who is standing beside me. “Honey, I would like to introduce you to Melody’s mom and Outlaws old lady, Harmony Fanucci-Steele. Wild Child’s sister.” I introduce them and Honey’s eyes widen slightly as she takes in Harmony.

I stared at his back,drilling holes into the fabric of his blue shirt, as if sensing my gaze he turned back and nodded at me as if that could reassure me. “So Honey, what is your name?” Daisy asked, the grin on her face not wavering a bit. She reminded me of my mom which made me confused if I should be happy or worried. “It’s Winter Ma,’am” The words slipped out of my tongue before I could stop, and I instantly regretted it. She had specifically asked me to call her name but something about her rich blazer and gold necklace and three diamonds on her finger made me self conscious and felt a little intimidated by her presence no matter how welcoming she appeared to be.

The twiddling of his thumbs stopped. “Go on and grab one. They’re not gonna bite you.” She smiled. “But I just might.” He needed to get the information on Nita’s address fast. Mrs. Wilder had that predatory smile that he knew all too well. He took a honey bun, placed it on a small plate and took a bite without making a mess. At least he hoped he hadn’t made a mess of it all over his face. “So, now that you’re sitting and that bear of yours stopped growling for food, what can I do for you?” She filled a cup with tea and honey and placed it next to his plate.

"Shit, I owe you now for having you help me with that. I don't have money, but maybe I could bake you something?" My eyes flicker to the grey wall, and I resist the urge to laugh. The sight of Wilder holding a roller and trying to figure out how to use it in the best way was both adorable and priceless. Such an idiot. Wilder displays his teeth, pearly and white. "You can repay me by agreeing to see me again, but fuck, if you know how to bake, then I will take that too. Homemade cookies are my favorite." My lips crack even wider. I'm having fun. "I know how to bake some mean cookies."

She grumbled, snarling lowly. I leaped over a few thickets while running wild. The coldness of the forest air slapped my face, but it felt good. Honey snarled again, fighting for control now. I didn’t stop her this time. I let her come out, and she immediately shifted into our wolf’s form. Honey had silver fur with black strips around her neck, like a choker necklace, and ankles like anklets and parallel strips of both silver and black. With our enhanced senses, Honey immediately went for a hunt. She needed an outlet to vent her anger.

“Caches seeded by my people. Real help, not bait. Small. Useful.” “Thank you,” I say. Then, because the air is so thick with this I could chew it, I breathe out. “We should… address the obvious.” Zarrk’s mouth tilts. “We should.” He doesn’t step into me. He asks, with words, because someone has taught the whole Wild a new trick: “May I approach, Branwen Mosswood?” Consent tastes like power. “Yes,” I say. “Hands where I can see them. No teeth.”
