Hope murmured something in her sleep, shifting again. Bob lowered his voice. “Ace… Is she okay?” I swallowed. “She’s fine and safe.” “With you?” he asked carefully. I hesitated. “Yes." I ended the call. Hope’s eyes fluttered open slowly, still sleepy, still soft. “Ace…?” she whispered. I pulled the sheet higher over her and cupped her cheek gently, one last moment before the storm. “Go back to sleep, Hopy,” I murmured. “I won’t be long.”

For our happiness. Maybe, just maybe, a new chapter was beginning. A chapter of hope. A chapter of courage. A chapter where we could finally breathe a little easier.
