I heard the clicking of camera shutters, but no one called the ambulance. My blood drained dry. My body became cold. Finally, Yvette Skye was no more. I died all alone at the corner of the street. The wounds became new, the old wounds hurt once again and it felt like no matter what right I do, I was always going to be wrong in someone’s eyes. And that someone could also be my best friend. “I won’t give an explanation,” I said after a while, “You won’t believe it. But, if you want to kill me, go ahead.” He hesitated. He took out his gun and even removed the safety — but he didn’t kill me. “You deserve to live and get tortured by this world,” He said, “You don’t deserve to die.” I nodded. That time, I realized — being alone is the way I like, it was the way I deserved to be and it was the only way I could survive.

My hands were fully red now. Warm and sticky with her blood. I screamed. “ SOMEBODY…..HELP!....HELP US!” My voice echoed and died. Nobody answered. I screamed again desperately. No footsteps. No voices. Just silence. She looked scared now. “Hey…..Don't worry!....It's not your fault.” she whispered. “Can you… hold my hand?” I hesitated. “I don’t want to die alone….. Always dreaded being alone when it happened.” My chest broke as a tear ran down my cheek.

Adia took a step closer. “She lost her husband,” she continued. “And now she’s living in that huge, empty house with nothing but memories.” Dave’s expression shifted slightly. “She’s not okay,” Adia added quietly. “And I’m scared that if she stays there alone… she might do something to hurt herself.” The room fell silent. That wasn’t something Dave had considered. Adia placed a hand gently over her stomach. “And I need her too,” she admitted. “You’ll be at the bakery most of the day. I’ll be here alone… pregnant.”
