“She worth it? This girl, this trouble?”
Richard’s jaw tightened, his eyes meeting Ivan’s with a fierce intensity. “She’s worth everything,” he said, his voice low but unwavering, each word a vow. “I’d burn it all down for her.”
Ivan nodded slowly, a faint smile tugging at his lips, not mocking but knowing. “That’s what I thought,” he said softly. “That’s how it always starts. A woman, a spark, and suddenly you’re fighting wars you swore you’d left behind.” He leaned forward, his voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. “You remember Katya? My Katya? She was like that. Made me want to be a better man, even when I was drowning in blood. Still does.”
