She traced the road line crossing each one. "The wolf says those are the weak spots. The ground is thin over them." Silas confirmed each one against his own data before he spoke. "If we introduce a localized vibration at the correct sub-harmonic frequency into those cavern walls from below," he said, "we can trigger a controlled collapse. The road above doesn't just crack — it drops. A siege engine that's two meters deep in a sudden sinkhole isn't a siege engine anymore."

Hetrick and Danny watched in horror as the tunnel’s structure became increasingly unstable. “Get out of here!” Hetrick yelled, shoving Danny toward the opening. In one final effort, Hetrick attempted to rush over for Alex but the mine was caving in too quickly. It was no use. Hetrick cursed and scrambled out of the tunnel with the cave in hot on his tail.

The entrance caved in. And the nightmare buried itself in ash and silence. Outside, the forest air hit my lungs like a second chance.

“This is her burden.” Cayla finally reached the lower ledge—a narrow strip of rock where she could stand, just a few meters above the cavern floor. From here, it looked deceptively easy. But as she stepped forward, the stone cracked beneath her feet. Time slowed. A groan echoed through the cave, and with a sickening lurch, the ledge collapsed. She screamed as she fell. She didn’t have time. The fall wasn’t far, but it was enough. Her back hit the rocks first, the impact jolting through her spine. Then the water embraced her.
