My heart froze at the sight of them. Turning around, I quickly climbed the dragon's back, my breath coming out in short gasps. “Fly!” I shouted, my voice filled with fear. The dragon spread its wings instantly, its massive body twisting as it tried to rise, but the newborns were faster. They came from every direction, trying to stop us. The first one leapt, its claws scraping against the dragon’s scales. Another landed on its back, sinking its teeth deep into the tough hide. The dragon roared, shaking violently, sending a few of them flying off.

“That won’t happen; I will never leave her side.” After a longer pause, Hades stated like it was the most apparent thing, “Ahhh… She´s your mate, isn’t she?” “Dragons don’t have mates!” “Keep telling yourself that, you overgrown reptile. I read, pointing to the page, “wasn’t like the other dragons. He didn’t roar. He didn’t breathe fire. But he listened. And that made him special.” Lily giggled, pointing at the picture of the dragon hugging a small bunny. “He’s hugging the bunny!” I smiled. “He is.” “Do you like him?” I asked, brushing a loose strand of hair away from her forehead. She nodded. “He’s quiet. Like you.” That made me chuckle softly. “Being quiet isn’t always bad, right?” “No,” she said, serious now. “He still helps.” I leaned down and kissed her on the forehead. “That’s right.”

He kept scratching, and kicking. A cracking noise from the eggs catches my attention, and I snap to see the first head emerging. Wait until they’re all the way out and they’re singing, I remind myself as my feet itch to run to the hatching dragons. I wanted to leave this place as quickly as possible. I didn’t want to watch this dragon get killed in front of his children. It was too sad.

Doll appreciated that his no-fur mate was able to stay cool and calm, because he wasn't sure how much longer he could.
