Jade’s face crumpled with pity. She dropped down immediately and wrapped her arms around her. “I’m sorry, Honey,” she whispered, rubbing her back. Then her voice hardened. “But this is not the time to stay here crying. Let’s go confront that bastard.” She rose to her feet and pulled Honey up with her. “I know that hall. It’s Domino’s Event Center. Thirty minutes away.” Honey nodded weakly, her face drained of color. She let Jade drag her out of the house, moving like a soulless thing, seeing the world through tear-blurred eyes.

By the time she opened the front door of her own apartment on the third floor, the first gray beams of the dawn were breaking through the living-room blinds. “You are tracking wet leaves onto the rug,” a dry voice noted from the kitchen. Quin stopped in the entryway, taking off her boots. Jade was sitting on a high wooden stool, swathed in a faded hoodie, sipping on the steaming cup of green tea. Her laptop was open to some test questions in a course but she was not looking at the screen. Instead, her eyes swept up, looking at her in an assessing glance, windblown hair, smudged make-up, slight shadows of weariness under her eyes, and defensive stiffness in her posture.

We realized that it was huge enough to fit us three, plus, we are both pregnant, sleeping on the ground isn’t advisable. The mattresses we took were only placed on the floor until I realized that Jade wasn’t there right next to Tain. He is sleeping in the center while I sleep on the right, Jade lies down on the left, “Did she get thirsty?” Shaking my head, I decided to walk out of the room and looked for her. When I arrived at the kitchen, she was there standing while staring out the window towards the backyard. I looked over there and felt my hair stand at the end before deciding to approach her, “Jade? Are you alright? What are you doing there?”

Jordan suddenly jumped from the couch and brandished a magazine page which featured jeans and shirts. Forcing herself to wake up after being so full, Vee agreed and decided to prepare for her day. She came out of her room after bathing for an hour and showed Jordan the pair of jeans she wore as he had suggested. Again, she felt judged as he asked her to turn around so he could take a good look.

"It was a really good night." Jayla smiled immediately, that knowing smile when there is somebody else's happiness. "I'm glad," she said softly, her eyes flickering with tenderness that warmed Jade's chest. Just then Jasmine materialized from the top of the stairs, resting her feet on each one of them in slow, cautious motions, as if testing which of those would be strong enough to bear her weight. She had changed into soft pajama pants and an oversized sweater; her hair was pulled back into a low ponytail. Nancy scoffed and replied under her breath, not allowing them to hear the remark. Jade tucked her skirt in before sitting down on the cold metal bench next to Rachel. Thankfully, from where they were seated, they were able to face away from Jessica and her newest companions. Laura and Amber were the first to go toe to toe. She watched as they grabbed their brackets, stood on either side of the court, and began to play. "What's up with those two?" Rachel pointed a finger near the sidelines. Jade's eyes followed, landing on Andrea and Courtney, who were having some sort of intense quarrel. Jade shrugged, "I'm not sure. They've been at each other's throats all day." They exchanged smiles, and she walked away, but she felt two pairs of eyes watching her as she did—one from Chad and the other from Jordan. Jasmine reached the window, where she could see the hills and mountains, the snow graciously falling down from them. She wrapped her arms around herself, trying to gather her thoughts. “Need company?” Jasmine turned sharply when she heard Jordan’s familiar voice. He was leaning against one of the wooden pillars, hands tucked into his jacket pockets. She immediately tensed. “What do you want?” Jordan stepped closer, standing by the window. “I just wanted to make sure we’re on the same page.”

Jade was dressed in a black suit, and there were four bodyguards behind her. She stopped right in front of me. Wilbur then leaned in and whispered, "That's him, Ms. Pearson! He's the bastard who hit me! See what he did to my neck when he tried to strangle me?" I looked at Jade, and my eyes lit up. Dad had shown me photos of her before, and she looked absolutely gorgeous in them to the point that I thought she must have edited them. But to my surprise, she was just as pretty, if not more, in real life. She was exactly my type.
