I fly back home overnight and rush straight to the hospital. The doctor tells me that Anthony has been suffering from long-term malnutrition.

Delilah refused to eat her breakfast and lunch, and now she desperately has to eat something. "I'm so hungry. How do I ask for food? No! I can't eat at his house. I'd rather starve to death than be jailed here!" Delilah muttered while regaining her bravery. Her stomach rumbled for more, and it started to hurt. After a while when it was the time for the next meal again, she would bring her a new set of fresh, warm food once more. It was an uphill battle to deny herself the basal, human need to eat when a plate full of delicacies was sitting right beside her, moreson when hunger was beginning to gnaw her. She managed to grit through it without succumbing, however, because she believed that whether she could escape or not hinged on this last-ditch protest she had left. It was a hunger strike created in the hopes that Mateo’s infatuation for her could ferry whatever remained of his humanity, and he would finally heed her desperate plea to let her go.

The whole night I sat on the thin yoga mat mattress and stared at the dingy gray walls that are stained in stuff I really don’t want to know what its of.
