Hazel loved this place, its quietude a stark contrast to the bustling city outside. She navigated the labyrinthine aisles, her fingers tracing the spines of well-worn books, her mind already lost in the world of literature. Today, she was on a quest for a first edition of Jane Austen's "Pride and Prejudice," a rare treasure she'd been hunting for weeks.

That pride was my one hope. I looted the middle shelf of the west wall first. It seemed most untouched, most neglected. Nothing at first—ancient textbooks, account books, and fabricated stories only. And then I saw it. A thick book hidden behind a stack of herbal alchemy texts. The spine was worn, but the carved design into the leather glowed softly in the moonlight. Symbols. Old, witch-begotten.

He moved with me, keeping his arm around my waist and trailing the fingers of his other hand around my kneecap. “I’ve been around a long time,” he hummed. “And you aren’t the first hunter I’ve met. Besides,” he added, with a wry smile, “my very existence goes against the laws of nature. It would be… ill-advised of me to doubt the existence of other supernatural beings.” I made a non-committal sound in the back of my throat. He smiled. “Maybe that could be our first hunt together. The ghost of Wiley Manor.” I snorted at that. “Sounds like a terrible name for an equally terrible book.”

The police had to get involved, there were two police cars out the front of the diner. Ducking under the police tape, Damien stepped into his diner, he was feared by everyone, humans, wolves and vampires alike, he was known as the Blood Alpha and that was not just because Blood is his surname. Her sent hit him sending him into a short sense of euphoria, he had finally found her his mate after, eighteen years of searching he had finally found her.

That was something no hunter had ever managed. I just hoped Riley was still alive. The forest grew denser with every step, the shadows deepening as sunlight gave way to darkness. My wounds burned with every move I made, each twinge in my stomach reminding me how much time I didn’t have Then, after what felt like hours of tracing faint trails, I spotted them: boot prints.
