The word lands in my chest wrong, heavier than it should, sharp and jagged, scraping against something inside me I can’t name. It feels like a blade disguised as velvet. My stomach knots, muscles tense, but I stay seated, forcing the calm, the control. I don’t flinch, don’t move, but my eyes are already scanning, measuring, drinking in the scene as I stay rooted in my seat observing with no words.
