The hunter’s red eyes narrowed with interest. “There it is,” it whispered. “The true power.” Nyx moved quickly in front of me. “Ariana,” she warned softly. But I could barely hear her. The rage inside me was growing too fast. The hunter raised one clawed hand slowly. “Take her.” The shadow beasts charged instantly.BEverything exploded into chaos. Damian lunged forward first, his sword cutting through the nearest beast with brutal force. Orion shifted fully beside him, massive claws ripping into another creature’s throat.

The shadow beast howled, its form flickering and distorting. The man staggered back, his silver eyes wide with rage. “You have no idea what you’re doing!” Sasha gritted her teeth, tears streaming down her face. “Then maybe you should’ve thought of that before you dragged me into this!” The altar cracked beneath her hands, the runes shattering like glass. The light intensified, and with a final, deafening roar, the shadow beast exploded into nothingness. Sasha collapsed, her vision swimming. Kael was at her side in an instant, his human form trembling as he gathered her into his arms.

The darkness loomed around them like a cloak. Sekhmet carried an old-fashioned torch he pulled from a hole in the wall to light the way. It was a bit theatric and unnecessary, considering vampires and werewolves alike could see in the dark. But it set the mood for torture nicely; causing shadows to dance across the walls. A bleeding.

His massive, midnight-black wolf materialized in a flash of fur and claws, biting directly into the Shadow-Beast's shoulder. The two massive creatures slammed into the ground, tearing up earth and stone as they locked in a death match. "Hunters! Kill the rest! Bring me the girl alive!" Selene screamed from atop the crystal. The grove erupted into pure, chaotic violence. Arrows flew through the air as Trevor and Nyra threw themselves into the fray, their weapons cutting through the hunters. Lucien stayed glued to Gina’s side, his twin blades a defensive shield as three hunters attacked him at once.

Hunters. “Shadowthorn sends a message!” one roared. “The Alpha wants his heirs!” Aria shoved the twins behind her, blades already drawn. “Over my dead body.” Luka’s shadows flared. Lila growled, tiny body vibrating with power. The lead hunter lunged. Aria met him mid air, driving both blades into his chest. Hot blood sprayed across her face. She twisted, using his momentum to slam him into the second attacker. Luka’s shadows wrapped the third wolf’s legs, yanking him down. Lila pounced, ripping out his throat with a snarl that was far too mature for her age.
