Every move, every strike, was now a calculated gamble. The High Hunter hissed, red eyes burning, muscles coiled, ready for a final strike. Lucien’s new power flared one last time, an explosion of golden force and stasis, shaking the floodwaters, sending debris flying in a controlled storm—but something unseen moved through the shadows, waiting. The plantation trembled. Wards flickered. Rebels shouted, witches screamed, and the water churned like a living beast. Lucien’s energy blazed, golden and unstoppable… and then the shadow revealed itself, red eyes glinting in the darkness beyond the flood.

Half of them monsters. From below, the hum of engines grew louder. Shadows moved through the fog, organized, methodical. The first Shadowborn war machines emerged from the trees, sleek black monstrosities with spines of steel and eyes of burning red. Behind them, the silhouettes of wolves, not flesh and blood, but forged from both. It was a sight out of legend and nightmare. The siege had begun. And all I could think, as thunder broke the sky in two, was how the Lannister name, my name, had built this war long before I ever learned to fight it.

Shadow told me his name was Cain, and I should never make eye contact with him unless I had a death wish and a signed will. Then there were the groups the ones that ran in packs like wolves, They laughed too loud and Hit too hard but also Moved in unison. Shadow leaned next to me at some point and pointed them out one by one. “Those are the Hounds,” he muttered. “They backstab for fun.”... I just nodded then my gaze moved to ... He fights like a wolf possessed, decimating the shadows so thoroughly that my gaze can hardly keep up with him. He pounces on a larger shadow hovering near the door that passes into the hallway. His giant, muscular shoulders slam into the doorframe, splintering the solid wood on either side, and he falls through, taking the shadow down onto the hardwood floor. Kian and Malix leap after him, growling as they snatch at more of the monsters surrounding their brother. All three wolves clatter across the floor, vanishing into the hallway. In the sudden, abrupt silence, I realize the kitchen is bright again—there are no more shadows slipping through the open back door and gliding like black voids

"I won't let them harm us." Aunt Cleo's voice sliced through the air like a warning bell, her words laced with urgency and gravity. "Aqua, you need to grasp the true threat of the coven. They're not just ordinary casters. Each possesses unique abilities, ranging from unnaturally swift regeneration and inhuman strength to the sinister power to manipulate creatures and even people, turning them into spies. Some even boast of an unnerving form of immortality, extending their lives far beyond the natural order. And worst of all, they have the terrifying capability to absorb the powers of other casters."

The next morning, after a week of fierce wind and rain, the weather finally cleared up. As the radiant sun rose from the east, all the werewolves cheered and howled at it together, filled with ecstatic joy even more intense than when facing a full moon. The damn hurricane had passed, and the damn lockdown was finally coming to an end.

Some peeked out from their windows and scanned the darkness outside. They were clueless about what was happening, and soon, the sight before them left them utterly shocked. The sky was illuminated by a massive blood-red orb, casting an apocalyptic glow over the entire city. Cracks like spider webs spread across the ground, and shadows began to emerge from the cracks. Accompanied by terrifying roars, these shadows slowly took form, and the people gasped in horror. The shadows solidified into the monster soldiers from bygone eras, with tattered and broken armor hanging off them, their flesh almost fully rotted away.

It worked on a few of the younger Toten, but not for Anders. The Schatten were able to pick off about ten of the Toten as they backed away from the castle heading towards the river. They took one into custody and placed him in a circle of containment, where he could not shift into his shadow form. The Toten didn't have real Schatten forms; their shadows were weaker and more visible to the human eye. The fighting continued for hours, as each side gained some ground. Daan cast that one of the security guards went down; lost his head. Literally!
