The witches closed in, their laughter echoing like a chorus of nightmares. Something inside Aqua snapped. A surge of dark energy, unfamiliar and terrifying, welled up within her. She felt her pendant grow hot against her skin, the clear crystal turning black as smoke. The air around her crackled with raw power as she turned back towards the attackers, her fear morphing into a blinding rage.

As the SUVs' doors crashed and the men moved forward brandishing their weapons, the alley became more tense. Sienna's breath caught as her heart thumped in her chest. Enzo remained motionless, his hand still in his jacket, his fingers grazing his gun's handle. Like a king, he stood tall and calm, guarding his realm. From the crowd, a guy moved forward, his heavy footfall echoing off the walls of the alleyway. When Sienna saw the shadow, her blood froze. Her dad. He shouted, "Sienna," in a fake, worried-sounding tone. "Come here now."

Chandler's legs gave way, and he sank to the floor. He stared blankly at the blood-covered flesh on his hand, murmuring, “It’s really her, it’s really her… “How could this happen?” He asked as he gazed at Ben, his eyes bloodshot, panic and anger surging within him. With a wave of his arm, he sent everything nearby crashing to the ground. Then, he seized Ben’s collar. “Bring me all the data on A167!” His voice trembled as he sank into despair. “Wasn’t it said that the special drug was supposed to be effective?”

“How could I? That village was filled with families. Children. We didn’t even find bones. Just… nothing.” Kieran nodded. “Shadow beasts don’t kill like normal predators. They consume.
