The earth cracked.
They stepped back in unison, surprised. One cursed.
“I think she’s just started learning,” the smiling one said. “How adorable.”
“You want the book,” I spat. It wasn't exactly a question.
“We want you,” he corrected.
My hand glowed.
The book burst open at my hip, pages fluttering, and the symbols I’d only seen in dreams lit up across my skin.
They hesitated now. Good.
I wasn’t running anymore.
I raised my hand again, and this time, the ground answered like thunder. “Come closer,” I said, voice trembling not with fear—but fury. “I dare you.”
