Shannon I heard someone talking when I was in the realm of dreams. I guessed they must have drugged me again somehow because this sleep didn't feel real, it felt artificial. I was hearing noises as they thought I was still asleep. Yes, they must have drugged me. Or they wouldn't just talk in front of me like this. So I tried my best to stay still, to keep the pretense that I was still asleep. "How could you bring her here?" I heard them arguing.

“That sounds perfect, although I wish you didn’t have to leave at all, I understand. I definitely don’t want my dad to find out you were here, but he never comes into my room. But I would rather be safe than sorry.” “Oh, one more thing. I have a tendency to talk in my sleep. So, just ignore me if I wake you up, but I’m really hoping I don’t because I’ve been told it’s a lot of jibberish and I don’t want to embarrass myself. It doesn’t last, but it’s excruciating, like it’s been broken then put together, but I’m just lying here, alone. Sleep takes me while the pain dulls, but I can’t seem to stay asleep, and when I try to turn, I can’t, my body feels weird…wrong. I try to convince myself that I’m tired and talk myself back to sleep, but as heavy as my eyes are, I can’t sleep. And I think I'm starting to hallucinate. I’m hearing faint voices, almost like a whisper.

It doesn’t take me long to pass out cold on my bed. I don’t even bother taking a bath. My muscles ache so much that I doubt I could make the journey to the bathroom. Sleep takes me fast. Heavy. Complete. I don’t know how long I’ve slept when I hear it. A scraping sound against the door. I pause. Listening. I don't hear anything. For a moment, I almost convince myself I imagined it— Then it comes again. Louder.

It makes me wonder fully if the whole time I have been hallucinating from good drugs or if something else is in play here. Feeling a shiver suddenly run down my spine, I decide to not think about her anymore for the moment. Instead, I lay back down. I must have been screaming in my sleep, because right when I wake up I could swear I heard myself. I'm not going to lie, it scared me a little. Not knowing or caring what kind of dream I had that made me scream, I get up and go pee. It's a bit odd, but I can't feel anything. Like I took a heavy narotic pain medicine that dulled my nerves.

I focused my gaze onto my sister, and all the events from the previous day came flashing to my mind. Me meeting her new mate, and them just showing up out of nowhere. I stared at my sister with a confused expression, and that his when she started mumbling in her sleep. “...mm swrry lit-tle sis... Ha... no...choi...” Her words were empty, and she sounded like a broken record player. If I had not woken up, I would not have known that she talked in her sleep. It must have been something that started recently though, because she never talked in her sleep.

I asked, my voice softer than I intended. He just stared. His eyes, usually so full of purpose and cold calculation, were empty. They were the eyes of a man who had lost everything. He didn't answer, just kept looking, and I felt a strange knot of concern tighten in my stomach. “I heard you talking in your sleep,” I said, trying again. I unwrapped the towel from my hair and shook out the damp strands. “You were yelling about a car crash, about not being left behind. Was that what you were dreaming of?”
