Scarred by fate
Garland says, clasping her hands gently in her lap, “today, we can start with whatever you’re comfortable with, even if it’s just telling me a bit more about your goals, things you’d like to accomplish in the future. Sometimes looking forward can make the past a little easier to face.”
That actually doesn’t sound too bad. I glance out the window, wondering how much I should say. “I want to be… well, the best, really,” I admit with a slight smirk. “I want to be an elite warrior. Someone who can protect others.” My voice is more certain, and I meet her gaze briefly.
Dr. Garland smiles. “That’s a wonderful goal. I can tell you’re dedicated and focused.”
“Yeah,” I reply, feeling oddly defensive.
