I want her to know that isn't the case anymore. She has me, she can have everything she wants and needs with me. I will be the family and love she craves, that she needs. Yet she doesn't know it. Not yet, anyway. I have to act like a friend. Not able to even tell her. And that is so hard. Stupid rules. She needs to know she isn't going to be alone. There is no worse feeling than feeling alone. “Shhh Vi, you have me” I said in a whisper, before realising I had even said it. Dammit! I didn’t mean to say that! It just slipped out. I gently kiss her head.

“What does she know?” “She knows I’m pregnant,” I say, my hands trembling. “She’s said she’s going to tell the board it was me, that she’s going to ruin me. It is via /me that she got it and it is via /me that she condemns me.”

Looking again, not seeing her, I take a deep breath, as I realize with sick certainty. I didn't just uncover her obsession i stepped directly into it She now knows I know, all bets are off.

When we break apart she rests her forehead against mine. Eyes closed. Breathing. *Soon, I think. Soon you’re going to know everything. Who you are. What belongs to you. What I’ve been holding onto until you were ready to hold it yourself.* I just hope when that day comes, you still want this. I hope you still want me. I pull her back against my chest.

I am not sure she knew she had this part. "I didn't mean to hurt you," I said, my voice barely above a whisper. "I know how much you like Keenan, but I like him too." my words were not doing justice to my intention, my words were failing me, my words were a far cry from how I actually felt and what message I wanted to pass to her.

I love it for her. “Reached out to him yet?” I ask. She knows exactly who he is. I kind of get the feeling she has been avoiding him altogether. “No, I haven’t. I need a little time.” She replies with a mouthful of ice cream. “Hmmm.” I hum. “I am going to tell him, I promise.” She says firmly. “I didn’t say anything,” I reply with a laugh. “You looked it and…” The doorbell goes off. “That’s my date,” I say.

She finishes softly. A small smile pulls at my lips. “Exactly.” “And if I’m not ready for that?” she asks after a moment. I don’t hesitate. “Then I wait.” Her eyes widened slightly. I lean back, still holding her hand. “But don’t get it twisted,” I add, my tone dropping just a little. “That doesn’t mean I don’t want it.” Then, quieter—more honest than anything I’ve said tonight: “I want the world to know you’re mine, Maya.” Her breath catches.

“Thank you.” His brows rose. “Yes?” “For telling me.” I knew how to play this damn game. “Please let me see her. I don’t care if she doesn’t know me. I want to be there for her now.” “New York?” I wanted to say that it wouldn’t go away.

She folded her arms in confusion, “Should I have asked?” I laughed at her answer, “How carefree,” “But still!” She emerged from the water again, “I know he’s purposely ignoring me.” “How are you sure?” I placed my hand on my cheek and rested on my elbow on the bathtub sides. “Because I want him.” She said. “Have you told him that?” “Well, not directly but he should know.” She scratched her cheek “How would he know that if you don’t say it directly.”

“Have you told her?” I shook my head. “I’m too much of a pussy.” “You could have told her to get her to forgive you.” I shook my head. “That’s not how I wanted to say it. I didn’t want her to think I was only saying it to get her back. That would be cheap—and make it less meaningful.” “Then call her and tell her.” “I’m not doing it over the phone. I’ll do it when the time is right.” “Well, she already knows, so I guess it doesn’t matter.”
