The ground beneath me was cold and unforgiving, mirroring the emptiness that now consumed my heart. As I looked up, my tear-streaked eyes met the distant gaze of the Alpha, standing tall and resolute. His voice carried over the solemn silence. "Royal, by the power vested in me as Alpha, I hereby banish you from our pack. You are to never return. May the spirits have mercy on your soul." The weight of those words crashed down upon me, a final blow to my spirit. I choked back a sob, the pain of betrayal and loneliness engulfing me. With a heavy heart, I pushed myself off the ground and took a final, lingering look at the pack I had once called home.

For a moment, she was filled with hope. “I trusted you,” he continued. “And because of that…” He paused. Then he sighed again. “I’m sparing your life.” Gasps erupted across the courtyard, and Helena’s eyes widened. “…but you will no longer belong to this pack.” Silence fell again, much colder this time. “You are banished,” Liam declared. “From Bloodmoon.” My breath hitched. “You will roam the forests as a rogue.” Helena’s face drained of color. “No…” she whispered.

As they drove me to the farthest point from the entrance of the pack, I suddenly remembered my brother.

“For that act you will now be banished from my walls. From my camp.” Banished. The familiar word suddenly caught my attention. “Yes, Alpha.” Hunter bowed his head. Vanquish and I stepped forward, furious. “But-” I began. Hunter yanked me back. Barking the order. “Silence!” His stern voice drew Vanquish’s attention. Thankfully, before he could say what he was thinking. Vanquish gave his brother an assessing look. Seeing the severity there, Vanquish subsided with a single, slow nod. I looked from one to the other and remembered why ‘banished’ had triggered me. I recalled what Lyra Lani had told me.
