I slapped the door, and my palm quickly turned red. The sound of people moving came from outside. "Who's out there? Open the door!" The man stopped immediately, and there was dead silence again. I took a deep breath, then pushed the door harder. "I know you're out there. Open the door, or I'll make you regret it!"

If he didn't open the door quickly, it was clear that they would have no qualms about kicking it open. The sudden noise interrupted his thoughts and filled him with unease.

After a long day at work, Serena headed straight home. As she approached the door, an unfamiliar tension gripped her. The door, which should have been securely shut, was ajar. She froze in the doorway, her heart racing, but quickly regained her composure. Cautiously, she pushed the door open. Her apartment was in disarray, as though a burglar had ransacked it. The bedroom door was slightly cracked, but Serena hesitated to enter. Her first instinct was to call the police. She did so immediately, her hands trembling as she relayed the situation.
