Then I began to tell her how to picture the mindlink. It was like a connection, a link, from one door to another. And in this case, I told her to focus on finding my door. It took a few tries but she was able to communicate with me through mind link and we went to the next step, how to close it off.

“Depends on how stubborn you are…” I give him a flat look. “So, never?” He tilts his head slightly backward… his face narrowing into a serious expression. “Think of your mind like a room,” he says, ignoring my sarcastic jab. “Right now, every door and window is open. I can walk through any of them without trying. Blocking is just learning how to close them.” “And how exactly do I close them?” “You pick something.” He pauses. “A word, an image… something specific that belongs only to you. Something you can hold on to. And when you feel me in there…” He raps his temple briefly… “you push that thing forward. Put it between us like a wall.”

I asked “Not stop it. Control it.” She leaned forward. “The power is a part of you. You don’t lock it away, you guide it.” I took a deep breath. “Okay. What do I do first?” “Close your eyes,” she said. “Focus on your breathing. Count to four when you breathe in, and count to four when you breathe out.” I did as she said. I closed my eyes and tried to keep the rhythm. “One... two... three... four...”
