Black Ice
I called out.
Toby nodded, his face a little pink. “You’re really fast,” he shouted back, voice shy but loud enough for me to hear. “Like... you own the ice.”
His words hit me deep. No one said stuff like that to me. Not in that soft, honest way.
I grinned.
“Stick around. There’s more.”
The practice went on. I scored again, and this time when I looked, Toby had a small smile. It was quiet, but I saw it.
