“What you heard… what you saw… it’s not everything.” His gaze searched my face, skepticism mixed with hope. I wanted to reach out and bridge the distance, but my hands stayed clenched at my sides. “I don’t want to lose you,” I said quietly. “Not like this.” Atlas’s expression softened slightly, but there was still a guarded edge in his eyes. “Then don’t shut me out,” he said. I bit my lip, the weight of my secret pressing down. How could I explain without revealing what I wasn’t ready to share? How could I tell him about the three tiny hearts beating inside me when the distance between us was already so vast?

His words took me off guard and I immediately looked away from him and he laughed. “You are so cute.” I was looking outside of the window with a smile on my face. I don't know what this city has held for me. I just hope not to get hurt again. I will not let anyone play with my feelings. I will be careful not to get attached emotionally with anyone. The day of the outing arrived, crisp and clear. Lynn’s heart was a drum against his ribs, a frantic rhythm that seemed too loud for the quiet morning. He dressed with deliberate care, choosing clothes that were unremarkable, that wouldn’t draw attention. He needed to be a ghost, invisible. The storage card, containing his entire future, was a secret, burning weight in his pocket.

My heartbeat will still quicken anytime he comes into sight and I will still feel tingles anytime he touches me and my toes will still curl in my shoes anytime he kisses me but I will just have to learn how to not wear my emotions on my sleeve. I won't let my feelings for him show to him anymore. Crying and pleading to him every time won't solve anything. Showing him that he has got the best of me won't do anything but hurt me even more so yeah, I decided to harden myself. I have put my heart on a tight lock for the meantime and will only use my brain till I know why he is hell-bent on making my life a living hell. "And that bitch? His mistress?" She asked.

He was, always, in my thoughts to be honest. Moon was right, I avoided talking about him as soon as he returned to protect me. To protect me from my feelings for him. But isn't that what I have been doing all this time? Protecting my heart, wrapping it in a thousand barriers so big that I myself can't see what's right in my face. Everyone notices my involuntary glances in his direction, or the little gleam they get every time he enters my field of vision.
