I took a deep breath before I spoke. “Paris… it’s not what you think,” I said quietly. My voice was calm. “I’m evil, yes. I’m not a good king. But I don’t just wake up one morning and decide to be cruel. That’s what everyone doesn’t understand.” She looked at me, her brows drawn together. I continued, my eyes fixed on her. “It’s fine if they fear me. I won’t explain myself to anyone. I don’t need to. I’m the mad king, remember?”

The lycan king’s eyes blazed with anger, but I kept talking. If I was going to get myself in trouble, I might as well make it worth it. “I know I am no one, but shouldn’t a king’s job be to protect his people, make sure they’re happy, healthy and working together for the benefit of the whole?” The king worked his jaw and slowly nodded. “Ideally, yes.”

I laughed at us and the state that we were in. “Family business, I guess. I like being able to defend what's mine, to take care of myself and the people around me. What about you? Do you want to be a king?” “Yes, and no. Sometimes I just want to be a normal guy. I think it'd be okay, though, with the right queen. I am super smart, you know.”

I had never thought that a time like this would come in my life when I will pray to God to meet the king. If my prayers come true and it is the king then I will beg him. I will beg him for forgiveness so that he takes me out. I will do anything for him to forgive me because I cannot stay here anymore. I will do everything he orders me to. If he does not take me out then I will lose my mind. I fear that I will become insane here.

I cleared my throat, trying to collect myself yet again. “King of what?” I asked, trying to sound like it didn’t affect me, like it didn’t matter to me. “I’m the King of Summer, I command the Kingdom of Summer,” he said, spreading his arms, “I rule over everything you see, and more,” he added, shooting me a wink.
