HE LEFT ME FOR MY STEPSISTER, I MOVED ON TO THE NEXT
My chest heaved and my vision blurred.
Why won’t anyone stop?
I pulled myself up, trying again. My legs were heavy, every step harder than the last. I stumbled forward into the headlights of another car, waving desperately.
“Please! Stop!”
But they didn’t. One after another, they swerved, cursed and accelerated. My hope dimmed with every rejection.
And then.....
I turned.
I hadn’t seen it coming.
The car came flying down the slick road, its tires screaming against the rain-soaked asphalt. The headlights blinded me, and for a fraction of a second, time froze.
