I look away before I’m running back inside and making an even bigger fool of myself. I spend my ride looking up ways to deal with this bullshit that Kingston and Audrey keep spawning on me, and the best thing is ignorance. Ignorance is bliss, but how do I convince myself to endure? Because my head won’t let me, my emotions will fall in line very easily. I've had nothing for so long that I’m stupid enough to take whatever it is that is left of Kingston’s love. Duty. That's all there is.

“I'll be fine.” “You don’t understand, Kai. The last moon warrior who stood against the Lycans was killed by your ancestors. You know this story. The Lycans always win. They will take another victory with you too. Your father is not weak.” “I know he’s not weak,” I said. “But neither am I.” She shook her head. “You are still that boy I held when you were sick. You think strength means not bowing, but sometimes strength means knowing when to stop.”

I clenched my hands in my lap, my throat dry. "I thought I did." Her gaze slid toward me, narrowing slightly. "You keep making choices that suggest otherwise." My heartbeat thundered in my ears. “I’m not weak.” Her lips twitched, not quite a smile. “No. You’re not. But strength without caution isn’t bravery—it’s stupidity.” I set my jaw. "I'm not sure if I should take that advice from you. Aren't you the one always getting into a fight?"

To gain from the apparent strength I held. I think he had been misled. Misled by his own stupidity. His own craving for power. Yet, that sick desire he had for strength and superiority had been his ultimate demise. For, the strength I held was nothing more than a strength one gains from the love and care of her mates. And, he was never to be one of them.

I kept my face still. So that was confirmed, then. "I chose you," he said, turning to look at me from where he stood, the glass loose in one hand, "because you are exactly like me." I said nothing. "You sit in a room full of people who think they know what you are," he continued, "and you let them. You wear their assumptions like a coat and you walk around inside them and nobody questions it, because nobody thinks to." He tilted his head slightly. "That is not weakness. That is a particular kind of intelligence. And it is very, very rare."

I admitted. “You won’t be.” Alvaro’s voice cut through everything else. I opened my eyes. “How can you be so sure,” I asked them, my voice barely above a whisper. “Because you’re the reason it exists at all.” The words hit harder than anything else and then he slowly stepped closer to me. “You think strength means having all the answers,” he continued. “It doesn’t. It means standing there even when you don’t.” “That sounds like a weird kind of blind faith,” I said.

“I know it’s hard.” She didn’t move. “You feel like you don’t belong. Like no matter what you do, it won’t be enough.” My voice was stable, but something about saying it out loud made my throat tighten. “But you’re not alone in that.” A beat of silence. Then— “Do you still feel that way?” Her voice was small, but it sliced through me like a blade. I swallowed hard, forcing a smile. “Sometimes, but I learned something important. Strength isn’t just in shifting or running. It’s in how you handle the things you can’t change.”

She would have a lot to enjoy and he was the type of man one could grow to love. But now, one week was all they had. If Kassy didn't return by the end of one week, not only would he mess with the palace, he was going to send attacks to the world of water because a mere man from their world had dared to take what 'belonged' to him. Myan worried for that part a lot. The world of water citizens were usually considered weak but in the real sense, they were stronger. Water always conquered fire but even they had no idea how powerful they were.

She looked at me, confused. “I lack in so many ways. Every way. And I have realized that knowledge is not everything, and I don’t even have that kind of knowledge... yet. So, how do I… get stronger?” she asked. “First, by trusting yourself that you can. And second, as a mortal, you have your limitations. A lot of them. But limitations are not weaknesses; they are your guide. They are like the levels that you need to cross to upgrade yourself.”

“Like we’re equals!” “That’s weakness,” he growled, his eyes narrowing as once again slivers of black bled into them. “I can’t afford weakness.” “Wrong,” I countered, meeting his gaze head-on. “That’s what makes you stronger. You face your fears because only by facing them can you overcome them. You know that.” I took a brave step toward him, surprising even his wolf. “True strength is getting shit done because you’ve found something that’s more important than the shit holding you back. It’s doing what you know you have to do even when you’re scared. Strength isn’t the absence of weakness, Zane! It’s overcoming fear, doubt, and uncertainty that is a true testimony to one's strength!”
