The bleeding started on a Tuesday. Victoria was at the institute, reviewing grant proposals in her office, when she felt a warm trickle down her leg. “I just got from a visit to my doctor. My fingers went around her, and my head filled with a rushing sound, like I was trapped underwater and unable to get out.
